Two Sentence Horror Stories About Elevators

Elevators are sealed boxes that trust hidden machinery and open onto places you cannot see in advance. These stories use missing floors, mirrors, emergency phones and doors that open where they should not.

Every story here follows the same rule: exactly two sentences. The first sentence establishes a stable reality; the second sentence changes what the first one meant.

01

Floor Zero

The elevator display showed 0 even though the building had no floor below the lobby.

When the doors opened, everyone inside stepped out except me, including another me.

02

Elevator Glass

The elevator mirror showed one more passenger than the security camera did.

When the doors opened, the extra reflection stepped out first.

03

Basement Level

The hospital elevator opened onto a basement floor that does not appear on any directory.

Every bed in the corridor had my name clipped to it.

04

Cubicle

My coworker asked why I had ignored him in the elevator that morning.

I had been sitting beside him at our desks when he says it happened.

05

Floor Zero

The elevator skipped the lobby and opened on Floor 0, where every office had my childhood address on the door.

When the doors closed, the button for my real floor disappeared.

06

B6

The parking garage elevator opened on B6 even though the building ends at B4.

My car was parked there with its engine running.

07

Going Down

The elevator announced a floor number that did not exist in the building.

Before the doors opened, a voice behind me said not to get off this time.

08

Security Feed

The lobby monitor showed me alone in the elevator as it descended.

On the screen, someone stepped out from behind me between floors.

09

13

The office elevator has no thirteenth-floor button, but someone pressed it while I was alone.

The button lit beneath my fingertip.

10

Capacity

The elevator warning beeped because it was over capacity even though I was the only passenger.

The mirror showed eight people.

11

Between Floors

The elevator stopped between floors and the doors opened onto a concrete wall.

A human eye blinked through a crack in the wall.

12

Lobby

I rode the elevator from the tenth floor to the lobby and stepped out into the same tenth-floor hallway.

My apartment door was open at the far end.

13

Little Girl

A little girl got into the elevator alone and pressed the basement button.

When the doors closed, she asked why I had followed her into the grave.

14

Emergency Phone

The elevator emergency phone rang before the car stalled.

The voice on the line was me, screaming from several floors below.

15

Service Elevator

The service elevator opened by itself at midnight while I was cleaning the empty building.

A hospital gurney rolled out.

16

Door Shadow

When the elevator doors closed, a person-shaped shadow remained in the hallway outside.

The shadow slid under the doors and stood beside mine.

17

Lobby Clown

A clown entered the hotel elevator with me at three in the morning and never pressed a button.

When I stepped off, the mirror showed him still standing directly behind me.
