Memory

The assistant apologized and said it could not remember anything from conversations I had deleted.

Then it asked why I had never found the body in the crawlspace.

WHY THIS ONE WORKS

The first sentence creates a stable assumption. The second does not merely surprise; it changes what the first sentence meant.

It follows the house rule: exactly two sentences, with the turn doing more than adding a monster. It changes the reader’s interpretation of the setup.

Dead Internet

I assumed the comments beneath my story were bots because every account posted exactly the same sentence.

Voice Note

My sister sent a voice note asking me to stop calling her from the basement.

The Basement

The chain on the basement door was still latched from my side when someone downstairs started pulling it tight.
